ELIZABETH LEONARD
Born in Penarth and currently living in Cardiff, Elizabeth Leonard has recently completed a BA Hons degree in Fine Art at the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff, graduating with first class honours.
She is fascinated by the art of trompe l'oeil painting and her final exhibition, 'Breaking the Surface', was concerned with the idea of the act of painting as the creation of an illusion. In works that featured water and swans as recurring motifs she sought to create an impression of reality while simultaneously highlighting her paintings' illusory nature by drawing attention to the processes involved in their creation.
She was delighted to receive the Harry Holland Award for Figurative Painting for this work and also to be awarded the BA Fine Art History Prize.
In addition to her Summer 2009 degree show, she has previously exhibited at the Bute Space 1001 Christmas Exhibition 2008.
